A police personnel assigned to guard Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has died after he accidentally shot himself in the head with his service revolver, police said.
The incident took place on Friday. The deceased, Sandeep Yadav, was supposed to join duty on Saturday, said Additional Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Mishra.
“Yadav was cleaning his revolver at his house located within Masauli police station limits when the gun was accidentally fired. The bullet hit him in the head, and he died on the spot," said the police officer.
Yadav's body has been sent for postmortem and the matter is under investigation, police said.
